The man in the video below recently posted this YouTube short touring the storage unit that he's converted into makeshift living quarters, due to him not being able to afford an apartment.

The video shows a makeshift wall comprised of Uhaul boxes. Once you round the corner from there, a bedroom can be seen with a lady taking a nap.

I feel for these folks, it has to be really cold in there in the winter, even if they use some sort of heating device, which is probably dangerous. And summer is just as bad if not worse. I'm assuming they have some sort of gym membership for showers and the like. Hopefully, their situation will improve soon.

Is it legal though?

Is it allowed to live in a storage unit in Texas? Unfortunately, no. According to the property code in Texas, it's not legal to use a storage unit as a place to live.

Even if the state of Texas doesn't specifically mention it, most rental facilities have rules in their agreements that say you can't use the unit as a home.

Jail Time

If you break this agreement, you could be charged with trespassing. Trespassing can lead to consequences like going to jail and having to pay a fine.
