Like most of us in Oklahoma, I was casually wasting a little time in between waking up and heading out to work this morning, catching up on my social media. I don't do much social mediaing these days, but I do enjoy TikTok once or twice a day.

As I mindlessly scrolled through the horde of ads and influencers, I was astounded to see a monster alligator swimming across Lake Eufaula with a deer in its jaws. You'd naturally assume it was planning on having it for a meal or two.

This wouldn't be the first time a large gator ended up in an Oklahoma body of water, and as far out of the normal habitat Lake Eufaula seems, Oklahoma Wildlife officials have pulled some big ones out of lakes around Tulsa... so it's not super strange per se.

In an instant, like pretty much everyone on Oklahoma-Tok, I flew into the comments to see if this was really happening. There's been a trend on the internet, well, since the invention of the internet, to create false narratives and hoaxes, so I wanted to see how far down the rabbit-hole this one went.

As it turns out, it's true... This massive 12-foot alligator was swimming across Lake Eufaula with a big 'ol deer in its jaws, and it was all caught on camera...

But...

There are more than a few Lake Eufaula's across the Southern US. This one happens to be in Eufaula, Alabama.

Judging by the comments on the original post, I'm not the only one who thought this was a Sooner State happening.

The Beauty Of Southwest Oklahoma

Too many people spend too much time complaining about being in Southwest Oklahoma. If only they'd shut their mouths and open their eyes (and camera app) from time to time, then they'd see the true beauty of this place.
