Kevin Durant Faces Thunder in Electric OKC Thunder Season Opener
Hands up, who else caught the double-overtime thriller last night against Houston and Kevin Durant? Our OKC Thunder kicked off their season in what the announcers kept calling an “electric" game.
First game of the year, and people are already calling it a contender for best game of the season.
A Double Overtime Start to the Season
I'll admit, I did start to roll my eyes during their comments because how can that many missed 3's be electric? But as the game ended, we were all on the edge of our seats. Through two overtimes? Every possession mattered, every bucket felt heavy, and the crowd was all in from start to finish.
It was also an all-in game since OKC was facing off against a Thunder OG - Kevin Durant - who now plays for Houston.
Nobody can quite tell if he's over the hill and doing the typical "play anywhere that'll have me" old-timers basketball thing, or if he's just puddle-jumping to whatever team will pay him the most.
Even you have to agree, while KD may be slower than he used to be, he's still good.
At the end of the second overtime, our Thunder brought down the big win.
Pressure Still High After Championship Season
After last year, it didn't surprise anyone. In fact, it was fully expected because this young Thunder team is still playing like they've got something to prove... Which is fair. In the world of professional sports, including college football in Oklahoma, no matter how many wins you may have, it's a "what have you done for me lately" sort of thing.
Remember how the winningest coach in OU history was under threat of ousting after every loss? The OKC Thunder are held to the same standard, especially now after their big finals win.
If last night showed what Thunder fans can expect this season, we may be unstoppable again. They'll work out whatever kink we saw in the offense last night, the defense was locked in, and Chet looks like he somehow added another layer of confidence over the summer. SGA did SGA things, and the young bench is incredibly deep.
We just have to work on those threes.
They shouldn't feel too discouraged in the exciting performance last night, the first go at anything is usually a little shaky, but they already look like “back-to-back champions.” Vegas has them picked 2-1...
