Oklahomans Aren’t Thrilled About Amazons New Solar Farm in SWOK
Over the last couple of days, one of our state's biggest announcements has erupted into a chaotic debate among Oklahomans with strong opinions.
The announcement? Amazon is set to build a massive solar "farm" down in Kiowa County to produce energy for their Sooner State properties in a bid to become "carbon neutral" worldwide by 2025, and Okies aren't buying into it at all.
Looking around Facebook, the announcement was published by just about every news media outlet in our state, and the comment sections of these posts are, honestly, hilarious.
We live in a golden age of stubbornness. Social media has given every person on earth this odd confidence that their opinions matter and we can no longer agree to disagree. It's not good enough to believe we're right on all matters, but we'll stoop to whatever viscous level we have to try to force others to "see our point."
Okay, saying that everyone is like that isn't fair. There are plenty of us who like to make popcorn just to watch it all unfold like a sitcom. The comments on this subject did not disappoint.
While the proposed solar facility has both fans and detractors, at least we can all agree that the times are changing and there's nothing we can do about it. Worrying about something you can't influence is a waste of time.
What do you think? Are you optimistic about evolving technologies? Or do you instinctively recoil from anything new?
The internet is full of misinformation on the topic, believe me, I tried to source facts out of some of the comments. I'm sure like almost everything in the world, the factual truth is somewhere between the most extreme beliefs.
