Wednesday’s high is pushing past 100° pretty much everywhere across Oklahoma, 105° here in Lawton, with heat index values climbing over 110° in spots.

That means you’ll sweat just walking to the mailbox.

Even the shade feels like it’s powered by a space heater.

But don’t throw in the towel just yet, you'll find relief after the hottest day of the summer so far, there’s a cold front on the move. And for once, “cold” isn’t just the weatherman's generic term for “slightly less miserable.”

By Thursday, the Sooner State is looking at highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Still warm for sure, but not “change your shirt twice a day” hot. Clouds will roll in, and so will the chance for a few afternoon storms.

Nothing widespread, just your usual Oklahoma roulette... one town floods, the next doesn’t get a drop.

By Friday, that front digs in a little deeper.

Temperatures drop even more, low 80s in some places, and rain chances creep up.

Northern Oklahoma could see a decent soaking, maybe up to a few inches if things line up just right. Everyone else might just get a tease.

Either way, it’s better than nothing.

Saturday looks even better.

Winds shift out of the northeast, and the humidity is taking a vacation. It won’t feel like October or anything, but it might finally be tolerable to sit outside without melting into your lawn chair.

Grandpa and my nephew are really looking forward to it. They have a high school bass fishing tournament that morning, with a projected high of 78° for the day. It's a good change from swamping it at the last couple of events.

Have a little hope. Today is going to be pretty unbearable, but the weekend is looking good enough to get out and explore under some really cool and unlikely summer weather.
