Oklahoma Snakes: How to Spot Friend from Foe
As the weather cools off into what meteorologists swear will be fall, it's only natural Oklahomans will venture back into the great outdoors. I know the mountains will surely be full of hikers taking in the beauty, but the cooler weather will also draw out the risks.
Oklahoma is home to several native venomous snakes, yet almost all Okies stick to the "The only good snake is a dead snake" mentality.
Fun fact: Beneficial snake species actually eat venomous snakes... so killing a good snake only makes the possibility of your interaction with a dangerous species more likely.
Here's a quick rundown... If a snake looks like the following, be cool about it. Just calmly walk away. They're a crucial part of the natural balance in the wild, no need to kill them unless they're a little too close to home - like in the backyard... at which point, all is fair in love and war.
