Oklahoma’s Best College Town Is…. Lawton?
This is not the first time this has happened, but Lawton has been awarded the title as being the Best College Town in Oklahoma.
I think 2020 was the last time L-town was bestowed this great honor, and from the outside looking in, it made financial sense... but the best ideas on paper rarely reflect the truth in person, right?
Here's the thing, Lawton's Cameron University is affordable and really easy to gain acceptance to. The cost of living in Lawton is lower than other college towns in Oklahoma, sure, but a title like this should command more than just monetary status, correct?
While I like living in Lawton - it's close enough to home I can be there, but far enough away I'm not expected to be, low cost of living, and city streets that remind me of off-roading in the Rockies - there is a bit to be desired here, especially for college-age young adults.
There's not a whole lot to do.
Some say Stillwater is the best college town, and while the party and bar scene is legit in Stilly, it's just a party and bar scene. It's practically Lawton without all the murder and bad roads.
As much as I hate to admit it, Norman is likely the truly best college town in Oklahoma. Not that there's much in Norman, but they're adjacent to the OKC Metro. Things to do are only minutes away up I-35.
Tulsa also gets consideration, but we can be frank with each other... Tulsa just isn't OKC.
Which town would you consider the best college town in Oklahoma?
