As Oklahoma slowly starts warming up, with the longer spring days and still-chilly nights, it's prime time to be out in nature.

One of the coolest ways to enjoy the outdoorsman's paradise that is the Sooner State is taking the family away from the city for a few days and huddling up in a cabin.

Some of our best family memories are the little cabin stays at places like Lake Altus-Luggert, Arbuckle Lake, and Tenkiller to name a few, but the only drawback to those stays was not being right on the lake.

First World Problems.

I'm not sure who came up with the idea, but someone decided to build floating cabins down on Oklahoma's arguably most beautiful lake.

Lake Murray Floating Cabins.

Imagine dipping a line into the water off the front porch as you wait for the bacon to finish cooking twelve feet away in the kitchen... If that's not an anglers heaven, I don't know what is.

The floating cabins at Lake Murray are all sorts of different too. They have small, private cabins fit for a couples' getaway.

Adjoined cabins in case you want to have an experience with another family, your brother/sister and their kids.

They even have a massive floating cabin with enough beds and bathrooms to accommodate nearly twenty people.

How amazing would it be to be able to tie up the boat and hop into the dining room for a quick bite before heading back out for the rest of the afternoon?

As the weather continues to warm up into peak lake season, all bets are off. Imagine unloading the boat and jet skis just once while you're having a lake stay. Tie it up at the end of the day, they'll be ready to push off the next morning.

The more I think about it, the more fantastic this sounds.

The real beauty of this time of year is in the sunsets on the lake.

Imagine winding down the day with this view... Spectacular.

It's important I should note, this isn't some sort of advertisement. I have no skin in the game at the Lake Murray Floating Cabins. I saw it on TikTok and thought it was cool enough to pass along.

If you're looking for something awesome and family-friendly to do in Oklahoma without all the crowds and traffic, here you go.

If you know, you know. When it comes to fishing, not all lakes are equal. While you can fish and catch fish in just about every body of water in the Sooner State, there are only a handful of lakes Oklahoma anglers get serious about.

Lake Altus-Lugert and SWOK's Underwater Ghost Town

Like most rare things, conditions have to be just right to see one of Oklahoma's hidden gems. In years of good and average rainfall, the lost town of Lugert stays buried beneath the waves... but in dry years, especially those stricken by drought, you can walk around this pre-statehood townsite while enjoying one of Oklahoma's prettiest areas, Quartz Mountain State Park.

Unique Things to Do in Oklahoma City

There is no shortage of things to do in OKC. While there are a handful of things everyone knows about--OKC Zoo, Myriad Gardens, Bricktown, etc-- there are even more lesser-known places to experience one-of-a-kind Oklahomaness. Some things cost a little money, others are completely free, but it's all fun for the whole family.
