Every time the election rolls around, Oklahoma politics seem to flair up on social media. I'm sure if you looked at the community pages around Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, Edmond, Stillwater and Lawton, the bitter political banter is ramping up quickly.

It's almost always the same topics and debates too, and there's no finding common ground on any of it.

Most people think the lack of common ground is because there are two sides to every issue, but I feel there are two completely different arguments happening within any single political topic.

Like the climate change argument. There's a hard line drawn in the sand between those arguing climate change. As you can imagine, in a state where oil and gas production literally is the economy, it's electric vehicles vs gas vehicles, gas and coke power production vs wind energy, etc... and neither side will hear the other because it's a traditional us-vs-them, for-us-vs-against-us thing like every other topic is in America.

The list of arguments goes on...

  • Gun control vs Constitutional rights
  • Illegal immigrants vs refugees
  • Body autonomy vs killing babies
  • Higher taxes vs spending cuts

It's totally left brain/right brain, and the very slim moderate middle appears to be smart enough to avoid getting in the middle of these lions-vs-hyenas brawl.

While the total overall voter base in Oklahoma leans toward a slight conservative majority, and Oklahoma remains the "reddest in the nation," you'd be surprised how most of the population centers in the state split it so close to 50/50.

By the statistics, when you see how voters vote, the Sooner State is split pretty evenly right up the middle-ish. While every county is majority Republican, here are the "most liberal" cities in the state.
