One Furniture Store to Close All Locations, Including Oklahoma
Even though the country is looking forward with a perception we're about to enter a period of time full of financial and economic growth, another national chain is shuttering their doors, including all locations in Oklahoma.
That's not uncommon in 2024. According to the math, more stores are closing across the USA than are opening this year. This is just another bleak reminder that when politicians describe something like an economy as "Great," it's more of a pep-talk than actual truth.
This is a wild story of the few owning it all, dating back to the Sears debacle.
While the Wikipedia page tells a very long tale of who owns what, who purchased who, and which company was spun off into oblivion, I think it can be summed up pretty quickly.
American Freight Appliances & Furniture is getting the axe - or rather, all American Freight locations across America are closing their doors. The company will no longer be by the time they lock the doors for good and throwaway the signage.
Weirdly enough, while the company is adopting the old-fashioned "Everything Must Go" mentality, putting everything on sale, American Freight is telling consumers to check back in stores often as new merchandise is expected at most locations every week until the final nail is struck in the coffin.
Are they really going out of business then?
Before you roll your eyes, yes, the company is closing all American Freight locations nationwide. It's part of their bankruptcy filings. This isn't just a last-ditch effort to save the company or drive sales.
I'm not sure about your Oklahoma town, but Lawton had a furniture store that hosted a Going Out of Business Sale for about twenty years before it was torn down and rebuilt as a car wash.
This doesn't mean the American Freight locations couldn't become something else under the parent company's umbrella - Buddy Home Furnishings are owned by the same group, and they're safe from the chopping block as of now.
All the same, perhaps the current AF locations will follow the national trend and become something entirely different... Indoor go-karts for instance... It has happened.
