Oklahoma Braces For A Massive Sahara Dust Storm Next Week
It's been so wet across Oklahoma this spring, but the season is about to flip a switch and get dusty!
A massive dust storm from the Sahara Desert is on its way across the Atlantic Ocean right now, and while Florida is currently soaking up the headlines, it's making a big run at Texas and Oklahoma too.
It's not the first time Oklahoma has experienced a Saharan Dust Storm, we get them almost every year around this time, but they aren't always powerful enough to notice.
I've looked through my photos to find the last big Sahara storm photos I took at Altus Air Force Base, but I can't remember when that was. It was like looking through an orange cloud illuminated by the bright lights on those huge hangars.
Of course, I remember the drive back to Lawton that night, too. Having to turn right into the wind just to go straight. It must have been blowing fifty or sixty miles per hour.
Where and when?
If the predictions hold out, we'll start to see a big change in the sky, if we see the sky next week, starting Tuesday. If not, then our best chances to notice a real change in the air will sweep around on Friday, June 6th.
