It's National Pet week, and that means it's time to celebrate our furry friends!  The ones who jump sky high when they see us and try to always be in the same room and in our laps.

My family always had pets when I was growing up, but they were mainly bird dogs, as my dad and brothers were avid hunters.  I do remember later in life, my dad got a little shih tzu and she was my dad's side kick.  Prissy came along after all of us kids had moved out and started our own families.  But she was super cute and we all loved her.

I got my first dog, a male Yorkshire Terrier, way back in 2007.  I called Cooper my divorce dog.  I got him when he was 6 weeks old, and dubbed him 'The Escape Artist'.  Cooper could get out of hole no bigger than your fist! I can't count the number of times I walked the neighborhood looking for him.  And I can't tell you the number of times, he was waiting on my front porch when I got home! Sadly, I lost Cooper on Valentine's Day of 2019.  He was 12 years old.

I thought that when I lost my Cooper that I'd never be able to have another dog to love. After a month without Cooper, I knew that I just had to have another fur baby to love.  I contacted Cooper's breeder and she had a girl that was still young who needed someone to love.  Meet our Girls!

My Girls

Show your pet some extra love this week in honor of National Pet week.  Maybe even let them lick you!

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
