Cement Volunteer Fire Department, Cyril Fire Department, Apache Fire Department, and New Hope Fire Department, met with the goal of becoming more familiar with each other's equipment and members in order to better protect the southern side of Caddo County.
Until further notice, all of these fire departments are on automatic aid, meaning if one of them gets paged to a fire, they all get paged to that fire until the fire is extinguished or there is no longer a threat.
On Sunday, July 23, 2022, the Oklahoma Forestry Service updated the extreme fire dangers in Southwest Oklahoma. The report focused on the low live fuel moistures and long-term drought.
Here are the main concerns to firefighters and the public as mentioned in the report:
  • Extreme fire growth potential and fireline intensity is to be expected during both initial attack and extended attack operations, especially when critical fire weather is occurring.  This is to be expected in all areas of the fire perimeter including the normally less active flanks.
  • Typical barriers to fire spread cannot be depended upon including roadways, rivers, and hardwood river bottoms.
  • Active fire behavior may extend into the overnight hours with poo overnight moisture recovery.
  • The public will need to be advised to avoid areas in the vicinity of the ongoing fires and heed evacuation notices coordinated by local incident responders.

Volunteer Fire Departments serve and protect the residents of small-town Oklahoma.  These fire departments are manned by men and women just like us.  They have jobs, homes, and families, yet they are trained to fight for all of us.  They will drop what they are doing at any given minute to fight the fires that threaten lives and property.  These four fire departments are doing that as well, with mandatory all calls for the foreseeable future.  Click here to find opportunities as a volunteer firefighter in our area.
