Video: Tornado Warned Storm, Huge Rotation Over Lawton, Oklahoma
Well, this afternoon turned out like every stereotype you've heard about tornado season in Oklahoma. When the sirens in Lawton, Oklahoma, went off, we walked out to the front of the Downtown Z94 Studio to see what was happening outside.
Hilariously, there were already four or five other guys from across the street who had the same idea. They were also out in the middle of the street, looking to the clouds to see something awesome.
Without a prompt beyond a National Weather Service Alert for a severe thunderstorm sweeping through the area, the sky went dark and sirens went off. When we stepped off the curb and looked up, it was the most perfectly defined area of rotation any of us have ever seen.

Admittedly, we stood outside as this beautiful rotating mass rolled right over us before falling apart.
Not to be outdone, another radar-indicated area of rotation started up again over Lawton. The sirens sounded again just a few minutes later.
Did Lawton have a tornado? No. Well, almost. All of the variables were there, but the conditions just weren't right. Just a tight rotation that thankfully stayed high in the atmosphere.
We kept checking Facebook and the TV station of our local news station and found only silence. But, since nothing actually happened, I guess they get a pass on dropping this particular ball.
