Flaming Lips Serve Up ‘Yoshimi’ Favorites at SXSW 2013
The Flaming Lips headlined the Warner Sound showcase at SXSW 2013 last night (March 14), and Oklahoma's finest experimental rockers gave fans a rare treat. As Billboard reports, the band performed their critically acclaimed ‘Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' nearly in its entirety (watch ‘Are You a Hypnotist??’ above and ‘Do You Realize??’ below), and that meant keeping the party going until after 2AM.
Fun fact: That 2002 Lips album was the subject of a musical stage adaptation, simply titled ‘Yoshimi,’ that premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse in Southern California late last year. The production may be heading for Broadway, but in the meantime, Lips fans can look forward to the band's next studio album, ‘The Terror,’ which drop on April 2 via Warner Bros.
Other featured acts at last night’s gig included the Joy Formidable, Alt-J, Frightened Rabbit, Atlas Genius, Surfer Blood and Guards.
