For 2022 Oklahoma as a whole has the 10th highest violent crime rate in the U.S. and the 6th highest property crime rate. This past year the violent crime rate increased to 4.6 per 1,000 which is up .02 percent from the previous year. However, property crime rates decreased from 28.7 per 1,000 to 27.1 per 1,000
We're making progress but Oklahoma remains above the National average when it comes to crime according to the most recent FBI crime statistics and a recent survey conducted by safewise.com. The good news is things are improving and there are several towns and cities in the state that have little to no crime to report.
Most of the cities and towns that made the top 10 safest places this year are located in the southwest central portion of the state. One town made it to the very top of the list at #1 for its 4th consecutive year, that's quite an accomplishment. Most of these towns or cities are quite small with populations under 9,000.
That makes sense. The bigger the city or population is the risk of violent and property crime increases. Even so, it's pretty impressive that some of the towns and cities listed below have very little to zero crime to report.
