It has been a tremendously warm start to fall across Oklahoma so far, and even though just five days ago meteorologists were predicting the unseasonably warm temps to stick around until at least Thanksgiving, the cooler fall temps are coming this weekend.

That's not the big weather story though, it's all about the extended winter forecast.

Different predictions have flip-flopped the future for Oklahoma over the last few weeks. The two Farmer's Almanac predictions were different from each other. One was cold and wet (lots of rain), the other was mild and dry. Meteorologists have since predicted a warm winter, but it all ran against what the repeated persimmon seed tests have shown... Snow.

Entering into the foretelling game late in the season, Accuweather is backing the persimmon seed, predicting above-average snow for most of Oklahoma. Mostly the portions of the state East of I-35.

On top of the snow prediction, the overall weather they predict will be normal, at least the temperatures will be within the normal range for all of Oklahoma, according to them. And while snow is predicted above normal for half of the state, overall, we're expecting less moisture.

Not sure how that's going to work, but yeah. Above-average snow for some, normal temperatures, neither cold nor mild, and dry.

It all comes down to the El Nino/La Nina effect... and it's not clear which of the two will set up in the Pacific. In fact, predictions suggest they could flip-flop, not develop at all, or pop up one week and disappear the next. It's really strange.

So the most accurate forecast for the Oklahoma winter is as follows:

Mild and cold at times, chance of snow and drought, ample moisture unless it's not, rain patterns could be above-average or none at all, wear shorts but pack a hoodie all season long.
