It's one thing to hear someone from anywhere else say that Oklahoma is a fly-over state with nothing to do here, but the sentiment cuts a lot deeper when it's someone living in Oklahoma who repeats it.

There are no boring places, only boring people. Though the eating experiences in Puerto Rico were just about as boring as it gets. They have the same fast food joints as everywhere USA, but every upscale restaurant shared the exact same menu. Seven different restaurants, all miles from each other, literally one menu. It was uncanny.

I digress, if you're bored living in Oklahoma, you're just a boring person. There's a ton of stuff to do in every corner of the state, you just have to be willing to leave the house and go experience some of it.

Will you have to travel a little bit? Sure, naturally, but there are things to do close to home pretty much everywhere.

I think the most common and nearby thing to do for everyone might be Oklahoma's greatest pastime, riding pumpjacks like they're rodeo bulls.

That's sarcasm, and a really bad idea. People get squished and killed by those at an alarming rate. I wouldn't recommend it.

Enjoying the outdoors is Oklahoma's greatest pastime. Whether you enjoy time on the porch, walking through some mountains, hunting little critters, punching holes in paper targets, or reeling in the biggest fish you've ever caught, Oklahoma is prime for time spent outside.

While the world calls it fly-over land, it's unbelievably beautiful. And the farther out your venture from the big cities, the more beautiful it gets. Granted, while half of everyone enjoys the lush green forests of Eastern OK, I of the half that loves the golden rolling hills of Western OK. Either/or, the sunsets are amazing.

If just being outdoors isn't enough entertainment, there are lots of things to experience too. From sprawling cave systems to arrowhead and crystal hunting, or maybe a quick trip to see the Bone Museum, there is no way a non-boring person could legitimately be bored in Oklahoma.

If you really feel trapped in an endless paradise of nothingness, you could always talk to a counselor, or make a rural friend and ask them to take you snipe hunting. It's an Oklahoma rite of passage, and it makes for a very fun night with the kids.

16 Annoying Things Oklahoma Drivers Do

I can't even begin to tell you how often the conversation turns to bad driving in my circle. Lake Altus-Lugert and SWOK's Underwater Ghost Town

Like most rare things, conditions have to be just right to see one of Oklahoma's hidden gems. In years of good and average rainfall, the lost town of Lugert stays buried beneath the waves... but in dry years, especially those stricken by drought, you can walk around this pre-statehood townsite while enjoying one of Oklahoma's prettiest areas, Quartz Mountain State Park.
