Beaverton Police Take Hamster Into Protective Custody
Pulling over a driver suspected of being impaired is unfortunately far too common for most police officers.
Having to take a hamster into protective custody, on the other hand, is somewhat outside the usual scope of police duty. And yet, in Beaverton, OR, they were called on to do just that.
A woman was pulled over and was found to have a hamster in her lap. While it watched from the dashboard as she went through a sobriety test, the woman stated that nobody would come to pick it up and officers "should probably just kill it."
Instead, they created a small container to capture the fuzzy little guy and promptly discovered that hamsters are a lot more wily than drunk drivers. It ultimately took three officers to capture the hamster, who was surrendered to a local veterinary clinic.
The lesson we should take away from this is that when we drink, hamsters are smarter than us.
