Bring Oklahoma’s Big Blue Whale Home From Costco
While doing the Millennial thing of scrolling social media during work hours, I stumbled across a wild thing at Costco. It's a big blue whale playset for kids, and I couldn't help but think how any Oklahoma home wouldn't be complete without one this summer.
Now, if you don't immediately get the reference, Oklahoma is famous for only a couple of things.
- Tornadoes
- Val on the Getner
- OKC Thunder
- 1945 National Champion OSU Cowboys
- The Blue Whale of Catoosa
It's a sacred, mandatory Route 66 roadside attraction with the sweetest origin story in the state.
Built decades ago by an Oklahoma zoologist so his family could have a place to relax on the pond, and now you can bring home something similar from Costco, of all places.
Is it exactly the same? No. Of course not, but it carries the spirit of Oklahoma's beloved whale. It's also huge.
This thing is 17 feet by 13 feet wide and stands over 10 feet tall. I can't think of any Oklahoma kid who wouldn't want something like this in their backyard. Or front yard. Or even the big kids - ages 21-50 - that wouldn't flex this at a summer campsite or backyard barbeque.
Because it's so big, it is a little pricey, but fun costs money.
