Cool Breeze Sweeps Oklahoma, Leaving Folks In Disbelief
It’s August in Oklahoma, and we're all experiencing unicorn weather. When I stepped out of the house this morning, there was almost a chill in the air. Almost. The thought hit me that we might actually make it to fall earlier than expected.
It's not just Southwest Oklahoma either, it's statewide. I've received screenshots, group texts, and social media is full of bragadocious amazement about this August weather too as folks stepped outside just to feel it for themselves.
It's akin to a Bigfoot sighting.
Here’s the thing: 80s in August in Oklahoma are rare. Heat advisories, scorched lawns, and sweat-drenched swampy undies are the norm this time of year, so when a front sweeps through and drops the high to something you’d normally expect in, say, late April?
It’s not just unusual, it’s suspicious.
Some blamed Canada. Others blamed El Niño. A few just gave credit to the Lord and turned off the AC to soak it all in. For once, stepping outside didn’t feel like being cremated. Windows were opened. Coffee was consumed on porches instead of in climate-controlled silence, and I saw a few brave souls mowing their yards voluntarily on my way into work.
Now, before you get used to this sweet mercy, let’s be honest: it’s August.
This will not last!
Triple digits are waiting just offstage, warming up with a bottle of sunscreen and a smug grin. But for now, we’ll take it.
Oklahoma may not get many weather miracles in late summer, but when it does, you can bet we’re going to talk about it like it’s a once-in-a-generation event, because frankly, it kind of is.
