This week the Comanche County Health Department announced that persons who are 65 years of age or older are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination. The health department will be performing vaccinations in both Lawton and in Altus. In Lawton they'll be set up at the Great Plains Coliseum and in Altus at the Community Center. An appointment is necessary to be seen and receive a vaccination.

Unfortunately all available time slots and appointments have been filled, at least for this week anyway. As you can imagine they booked up fast as soon as the word got out. However, more vaccine is on the way and they plan to schedule another vaccination event as soon as they receive it. You can check the official Comanche County Health Department Facebook page for the next vaccination event date and location.

Those who've scheduled an appointment for a vaccination this week will need to follow all the guidelines posted by the health department. No walk ups or non-scheduled persons will be seen. Once another vaccination event is announced you'll need to sign up. Below is the official instructions for the event:

If you're needing to be tested for COVID-19 the health department will be doing free drive thru testing today (01-05-21) and on (01-07-21) from 10:00am until 5:00pm at the Great Plains Coliseum 920 S.W. Sheridan Road. Visit Marquislabs.com to register. Curbside testing will also be available at the Comanche County Health Department 1010 S.W. Sheridan Road. Call (580)-248-5890 to register and for additional details.

At this time only high risk persons are eligible for the vaccination along with health care workers, first responders or persons who are at greater risk of exposure to COVID-19 due to their jobs. Eventually everyone will have the opportunity to get it if they choose.

So will you be getting the vaccination when it's available to you? Take the poll:
