Get Ready Lawton the 'Yard of the Month' Competition is Back!

LETA (Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority) just announced the return of the 'Yard of the Month' contest starting today, April 1st through October 31st. You can nominate your neighbors, friends, and family for the 'Yard of the Month' award, and every month throughout the Spring/Summer a new winner will be selected and announced. The winner will receive a $100 gift card courtesy of Bedrock Nursery, a 'Yard of the Month' winner sign, and of course bragging rights! I know of several deserving people and neighbors I can nominate for this award whose lawns and landscaping are beyond incredible, they're absolutely immaculate.

Now that Spring is officially here and we're starting to see warmer temperatures outdoors it's time to get back in the yard and get things looking good. I spent most of the weekend in the yard raking up leaves and getting all the equipment ready for the season. I enjoy taking care of the lawn and landscaping, I'm not that good at it but it's relaxing and the end result is always something you can be proud of. I'm still a long ways away from winning the 'Yard of the Month' contest but with each passing weekend, my yard is looking better and better.

So be on the lookout for yards that you can nominate for the 'Yard of the Month' award. To nominate someone all you have to do is take a quick picture or two and submit them to the Lawton Public Affairs office by emailing publicaffairs@lawtonok.gov. Along with the photos include the person's name and address along with their phone number if you have it. Then they'll be entered into the contest. Every month members of LETA (Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority) will review all the entries and declare a winner!

One thing's for sure, Oklahoma has a ton of funny, unusual, and downright crazy street names. Across the Sooner State in every town, city, and rural community you'll find hilarious streets and roads with some of the most bizarre names you can think of. When they were named, more than likely years ago, I'm sure no one thought they would be considered crazy or funny at the time. Well, times have changed! Now some of these street names had to be deliberately named by someone with a great sense of humor. At least in my opinion anyway. Where to Find the many murals by Justin Hackney's Spreading PAINT in Lawton, Fort Sill.

If you've driven around town you've probably seen all the murals we have in Lawton, Fort Sill. If you take the time to look you'll notice that they're everywhere. We're lucky to have so many talented artists that share their work with us regularly by painting murals. One name you've probably heard before is Justin Hackney and Spreading PAINT. His work of masterful murals can be found all over town. He's done some of the very best and has painted everything from rock stars to celebrities and everything in between. He has a style all his own and has painted murals in full color, vivid transposed negative style, and in black and white.
