Lawton Area Transit System (LATS) no Longer Requiring Face Masks for Passengers!
LATS (Lawton Area Transit System) will no longer enforce the national mask mandate or require passengers to wear face masks and coverings while using/riding public transit. Recently the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) updated its policies due to a ruling from a federal judge, U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizellethat that struck down the mandatory mask mandate for all public transportation.
Nothing says you can't wear a mask if you want to, it's just not mandatory, nor will any further enforcement of face masks or coverings continue. The Biden administration and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) were set to renew and/or continue the mask mandates but it has since been struck down. Not only will this include LATS but all the airlines, trains, boats, taxis, and other public transit systems.
The CDC, TSA, and other health organizations and professionals while not having the authority or ability to enforce mask mandates still suggest/recommend that you wear one. You can click here to see the statement from the TSA regarding mask and face coverings. Again nothing says you can't wear a mask if you feel it's necessary, they just aren't enforcing mask policies and requiring their mandatory use.
This recent action has, as you can imagine, created a lot of concern and controversy. The ruling came just days before the extension of mask mandates and other security directives that were set to go in place. Some people are worried, others are rejoicing. Either way, at least for the time being, these mandatory mask mandates are over. The ruling applies to airplanes, trains, boats, buses even taxis and rideshare vehicles.
