Lawton to Vote on Mandatory Face Mask Ordinance Tomorrow
The city council will be meeting tomorrow afternoon Friday, July 17th 2020 (07-17-20) at 2:00pm CST to vote on the proposed face mask ordinance. The council committee will present their plans which follow or mirror similar face mask ordinances in the state and across the Nation in an effort to help slow or hopefully stop the spread of COVID-19. The ordinance is also consistent with the current CDC and guidelines.
The state of Oklahoma and the Nation as a whole is starting to see a second wave of the Coronavirus. There's been a rise recently in positive cases and infection. Our own Governor Kevin Stitt recently tested positive for the virus and announced his condition yesterday. You can get more on the here. He's believed to be the first U.S. Governor that's come down with COVID-19 or has tested positive anyway. We all wish him well.
The official City of Lawton press release for the upcoming meeting and vote is below:
Agree or disagree the new ordinance has a better than good chance of passing, so you'll be required to wear a face mask or covering in the city limits. I'm not a huge fan of face masks, but if it will help slow or stop the spread of COVID-19 I'll do my part to help. Plus with the mask ordinance we should be able to keep things somewhat open. Most of the businesses will be allowed to remain open. However if things don't change we could see another shutdown and no one whats that. So I'd rather wear a face mask than go back to everything being shutdown.
