Looks like Oklahoma will have another wet weekend! Severe storms are expected to ramp up tonight (Friday, June 9) and last through Saturday afternoon with large hail and damaging winds as the primary threats.

There's a lot that goes into the atmosphere to create severe storms! Today's high temperatures are just a piece of what's needed to create Oklahoma's infamous summer storms.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, "storms are expected to develop over the high plains of Colorado and New Mexico on Friday afternoon, then move southwest as a storm complex into Oklahoma and perhaps north Texas." We can expect storms to ramp up here in Oklahoma around 10 p.m. tonight, and we may see strong to severe storms overnight.
As for Saturday, storms are expected to intensify after sunrise and there could be more widespread severe weather. Safe to say it's going to be a wild 48 hours for weather here in Oklahoma.
Of course with every storm system, the timing is always impossible to predict. But the National Weather Service in Norman is expecting storms to start up at 10 a.m. in northwest Oklahoma and then make their way southeast overnight.
A second round of severe weather is expected Saturday evening for southern Oklahoma.
As we get into the weekend Saturday, a second round of storms is expected to make its way into southern Oklahoma that afternoon.
On Saturday afternoon, southern Oklahoma could see storms start up as early as 3 p.m., but the storms will most likely start sometime between 5-8 p.m. and phasing out by 9 p.m.
After the weekend storms, it's looking like we'll have some cooler weather move in next week!
