Nathan Dahm (R-OK) was a recent guest on "The Problem with Jon Stewart" show on Apple TV+. The two sat down and debated Oklahoma's gun rights, laws, and pro-gun legislation. It went about like you'd expected. Lots of fake facts, misinformation, and overtly emotional reactions on both sides of the gun rights argument.
Some say Jon Steward won the debate and proved his talking points. Unfortunately for whatever reason Nathan Dahn was unprepared for the debate and allowed several statements and quote-unquote facts to go unchallenged. For example, Oklahoma absolutely requires background checks (NICS) on firearm purchases.

Several times during the interview or debate Stewart remarked that we allow people to purchase firearms without background checks, but that's not true. He also brought up permits. Oklahoma is a constitutional carry state. Meaning a person who is legally able to purchase and possess a firearm may carry it in the state.

Stewart also brought up gun registries and Oklahoma's lack of one. Well, the Federal government itself has prohibited the creation of a National gun registry with 18 U.S.C. 926. There's good reason to prohibit gun registries, a quick look into history will prove that. Here's a brief history: Registration=confinscation=genocie.
Lastly, the claim that firearms are the leading cause of death of children in the U.S. is also a half-truth. A lot of the studies that people quote include ages 1-25 / 1-21 and 1-19. All include suicides and lethal encounters with both law enforcement and armed citizens in the protection of self or others. It's also heavily influenced and exaggerated by inner-city violence and gang activity committed by those under 25, 21, or 19 years of age.
Here's the actual truth: There are really only three types of lies to be told. Big ones, small ones, and statistics.
