It has been a wild week of severe weather across Oklahoma, and the weekend isn't forecasted to let up. How are you handling it? I know a ton of Okies are taking to social media to post up their incredible videos of tornadoes, hail, and torrential rainfall. It's as if all the Oklahoma stereotypes are true!

The biggest thing we've always joked about is "When you hear the sirens, go outside and look." I believe most people think that's us being funny, in jest to a serious situation of life or death, but it's 100% true.

On Tuesday, as the sirens went off in Lawton, while the local news station remained absent from the situation, hordes of people flew outside to see what was going on and capture it all to share with the world.

Praise the cameraman...

Is there nothing Oklahomans are afraid of? Granted, there's a big difference between stepping outside during a severe weather event in June vs April or May. The summer storms are just different, and you're able to witness the madness from a long way away.

Don't get me wrong, I'm positive any of the aspiring social media stars above would duck, cover, and run if and when their situation took on a more serious tone, but this is wild.

Are Oklahomans just built differently? Could be just be the way we're exposed to non-stop weather coverage on TV growing up? Even I'll admit, watching David Payne run on the cusp of being canceled in the heat of the moment is way better than 99.9% of all the movies and shows being made today.

@reegrummond Why do you watch the storm coverage in Oklahoma if you aren’t in town? Because i cant miss the screaming eagle and grandma serving pancakes

All the same, I do have neighbors who dive into the hidey-hole the moment they hear the sirens. At least one of them is born & raised Oklahoman, the other is Texan... but maybe we were all that way in our youth.

More Oklahoma Phrases That Stump Non-Okies

Depending on how old you are and how big your hometown is, these Oklahoma phrases will be either really familiar or not at all. If you're seeing and hearing these for the first time, add them to your vocabulary. As Okies die, move away, and non-Okies move in, these words are disappearing from the Oklahoma dialect.
