Oklahoma Butcher Offers ‘Thor’s Hammer’ Beef Cut
Lawton is such a meat desert that people here forget that butcher shops exist regularly around other places in Oklahoma.
This is the story of the one cut that rules them all? No, that's Lord of the Rings... This is the tale of Bjolnir... the beef hammer of the gods.
Call it good marketing if you want, or perhaps the owner at The Meat Shack is just a superfan of Marvel movies, but you cannot deny Thor's Hammer is a great re-branding of the humble and unpopular beef shank.
What you're looking at there is, well, the thigh of the cow. This cut of beef is rarely seen like this as it's not a very popular cut in America. Normally this portion is deboned and either ground up as lean burger or cut up and labeled as stew meat... but that's not as sexy as saying "Yeah, I'm making Thor's hammer tonight on the pit.
Odds are lives will be at steak... Consume enough and you'll be the god of your own, ahem, thunder... I could honestly do this all day, with the puns and such, but there's no time.
If you want your own Thor's Hammer to put on the barbie, you'll have to source it yourself. The Meat Shack has never shipped their meat before, and in talking with Sherri at the front counter, it'd probably be too expensive to consider.
The Meat Shack is located in Stigler, Oklahoma. A tiny town just far enough south of I-40 to be considered in Southeast Oklahoma. If you really want one though, it's about a seven-hour round trip by vehicle, even longer if you walk according to Google Maps.
If you wanted to try your own Bjölnir without driving through meth country, you may be able to order it through Rancher's Market in Elgin. They'll have the details on this rare cut of beef.
