Looking around Oklahoma, the state is in a bit of a business boom at the moment. I know my own small hometown - which has been dying a slow and brutal death for the last twenty years - is currently on the upswing with new businesses coming in.

That's normally great news, however, all of the new businesses are fast food restaurants.

While that's not an entirely bad thing, new business means jobs and growth, it's not clear if the trend will also attract different industries also.

My family spent the Thanksgiving weekend playing dominoes and talking smack to each other, but in the fun of it all, there were real conversations happening. We debated whether Mike Gundy was done at OSU, whether the referees really do play for the Kansas City Chiefs and food. We talked endlessly about food.

While the topic started simply enough about how good the Head Country BBQ ribs we had instead of turkey this year were, there was great debate on the new rumored restaurants. A Whataburger had been confirmed to be going in next to the Walmart, and there was talks of a Chick-fil-A too.

Mom and Dad still live there, but they don't like Whata-anything, and we were all split on whether the CFA rumor was true... so we ended up all debating what our favorite fast foods were.

It's not shocking that none of us agreed on anything. All fast food is garbage, we just all prefer to eat different garbage, though Marco's was the closest to an aggreance. It got us wondering, who makes Oklahoma's favorite fast food?

Let me save you the trouble, it's Chick-fil-A. Has been for nearly a decade.

The real shocker after doing our collective Google-Fu was Oklahoma's most hated fast food.

Even I will admit, I didn't believe it when I first heard it, but the more I thought about it, the more things started to add up. Because it was, and for a very long time, the practical standard of fast food Tex-Mex, but it seems the brand has opted to slowly die since the pandemic kicked off in 2020.

Who is it? Taco Bueno.

For whatever reason, Taco Bueno has been on the outs with Oklahomans popularity for a few years now, which is weird because they had practically the only acceptable fast food tacos in the state for a very long time... but the sun sets on everything at some point. Now seems to be a low point for Bueno.

I know. I was expecting it to be Sonic.

Even more weird, the Oklahoma original Taco Mayo - which has had its ups and downs over the years - is currently in a favorable upswing. How does that even happen?

The topic of Oklahoma fast food is all sorts of weird in 2024. While you might assume Taco Bell was standing high above all others, they aren't. At least not in Oklahoma where Del Taco somehow stands supreme in the fast-Tex-Mex category.

Still, Oklahoma's favorite fast food remains a Sooner State staple - Braum's. I'd imagine their competitive grocery pricing on made-in-Oklahoma goods has led the charge to keep them atop every Okies' opinion.

Oklahoma's Highest-Rated Barbeque Joints, In No Particular Order...

I doubt there's a single topic debated more passionately in Oklahoma than who makes the best BBQ. While they all smoke meat, there are some huge differences in how that process is done. Type of wood, length of cook, foil vs paper wrap, and even the hot topics of seasoning and binders come into play. What you like others may not, and vice versa. Since we can't just pick a top five or ten, here are the Oklahoma barbeque joints that have the biggest fans.
