Oklahoma Finally Gets a Break After Days of Tornadoes
After a brutal four-day weather event across Oklahoma, more rain is headed to the Sooner State later this week.
Tornadoes spread out all across the northern, southern, and eastern portions of the state the last few days. From the Kansas line near Renfro and Medford to the Texas state line down around Wichita Falls and over to Ardmore, Durant, and the Arkansas state line.
What a weekend it was.
The Tornado Weekend Everyone Saw
@severe_central Truly nothing less than a miracle that this monster of a tornado did not take any lives! My prayers to the town of Enid as they clean up from the devastation left behind. #tornado #fyp #oklahoma #tornadotok #EF4 ♬ original sound - SevereCentral
I don't think there's a single Okie who hasn't seen the Enid tornado video yet. It was a very picturesque monster of a twister. Several smaller tornadoes, or at least lowerings, found their way through the Tulsa metro, south-central OK, and on down into the Lake Texoma area.
Even though Sunday was supposed to be a gentle weather day, the weather dropped the message and did its wild thing again on the northern and southern borders.
Two more days of severe weather risk - count that as days 5 and 6 of this weather event - will remain for SEOK today and tomorrow. Today's risk is marginal, tomorrow's may get a little hairy down around Broken Bow.
Final Severe Risk Wraps Up Tuesday
Alternatively, further out in the southwestern and western portions of the state, spring is rolling the critical fire danger at least one more time. As much rain as we've had, these parts of the state have had a lot less rain than everyone else. When that wind whips up, every Okie is on volunteer fire duty throughout the day.
The good news is, while more rain is headed to Oklahoma this week, with a chance of showers somewhere each day through Saturday, there's no forecast for severe storms yet.
The Week Ahead Looks Calmer
That can change, you know that, but the possibility for that isn't apparent just yet.
If you need to catch up on your lawn work, don't waste your next sunny day.
Looking further out, there's talk May is looking pretty mild and gentle as of now. Cool and rainy for the most part. Anything the Arctic is planning on pushing our way hasn't hit the forecast modelers just yet, and we'll take all the nice weather we can get.
