As we roll closer to the first big holiday of the summer, many people are gearing up for a little travel, family cookouts, and of course, fireworks!

It's usually way too dry to be letting freedom ring across the Sooner State, but with our record rains this year, almost everywhere in the state is good to go, provided we don't suddenly dry up over the next two weeks.

The big question remains: where do you shoot off fireworks?

Great news, most cities and towns across the state pretty much let you do whatever you want. Especially in those small towns. Light them in the driveway, just try not to set the town on fire.

In larger cities, areas are often designated so that the chaos can be controlled a little bit. In Lawton, while it's illegal to even possess fireworks inside city limits, the city allows fireworks to be shot off out by Lake Lawtonka on public property - but that's only when they allow it. Some years, the fire risks are too much, and the city cancels freedom.

Still, plenty of people shoot fireworks off inside city limits, and I've never even heard of someone getting a ticket for it before.

Small towns rule the holiday.

Look at that thing! It's a Roman candle minigun I saw down at King Fireworks in Geronimo! Can you imagine the Roman candle fights? I sure could.

When it comes to celebrating freedom, it sure pays to know someone either outside of city limits or in a small, rural Oklahoma town.

So long as you don't start a fire, you can pretty much shoot off whatever you want. Sure, the small towns may put a curfew on freedom - I think Apache, OK is good to go until midnight on the 4th before the local government starts putting a knee on the neck of freedom, but you have to keep in mind that breaking all the rules is what this holiday is all about.

Oklahoma's Best 4th of July Celebrations

There's nothing like celebrating America's independence in the heartland, and Oklahoma practically overflows with patriotism across the state. While most towns have their own celebrations, some are larger than others. Since it would be hard to catch all of them in one day, they're spread out a bit over two and a half weeks, pick one or more and let your American flag fly.

Oklahoma's Best BBQ Joints

Nothing in Oklahoma is debated more passionately than who makes the best BBQ. While they all smoke meat, there are some huge differences in how that process is done. Type of wood, length of cook, foil vs paper wrap, and even the hot topics of seasoning, binders, and sauce come into play. What you like others may not, and vice versa. Since we can't just pick a top five or ten, here are the Oklahoma BBQ joints that have the biggest fans.

Do Not Leave These Things in Your Hot Car in Oklahoma

While you would expect most of this to be general knowledge, you'd be amazed how many people found out the hard way that there are some things you should never leave in a hot vehicle. Since we're knee-deep into another hot Oklahoma summer, it's worth mentioning to those who don't know.
