Take a Free Storm Spotter Class Ahead of Oklahoma’s Storm Season
Every spring Oklahoma experiences a fifth season of weather. Tornado season. It's universally the time that every native and adopted Okie keeps a close eye on the sky, but the overwhelming majority have no idea what they're looking at.
Admit it, you've seen posts on social media like these...
- "There's a wall cloud over (any location)"
but it's actually just a dark cloud. - "I see rotation!"
but it's more-or-less the winds blowing the clouds. - "I see a funnel!"
Spoiler, it's not a funnel. Just some bored Susan looking for a little attention.
Lucky for all of us, the National Weather Service hosts severe weather classes all over our region.
They'll train you how to be a true weather spotter. What weather traits and cloud conditions to look for, red flags and tell-tale signs of severe weather, and how to report it directly back to the NWS in Norman.
In turn, they'll take your information to make the best recommendations for your specific area - watches, warnings, and advisories.
If you'd like to take the free class in person or online, here's a link to the details.
