Enjoy Local Craft Beer At These Southwest Oklahoma Breweries
Who says you can't find quality beer in Southwest Oklahoma? While the craft beer craze and the beer laws have changed the landscape of the Sooner State, local and small-batch breweries keep popping up all over the state.
Oklahoma City and Tulsa seem to be the natural brewery hot spots, featuring dozens and dozens of breweries, but Southwest Oklahoma is building a craft beer trail all its own.
Here's a quick rundown on SWOK's independent, craft beer breweries.
War Pony Brewery - Lawton, Oklahoma
Starting with the closest, the first brewery on the list is War Pony Brewery right here in Lawton at Comanche Nation Casino. Billed as a chill place to have a beverage, they actually make a few different brews in-house. Comanche Moon Lager, a hoppy Lord of the Plains IPA, Double Down Ale, and Comanche Bourbon Stout. Since it's here in town, it might be worth taking the growler down there and sampling the goods.
Rising Eagle Brewery - Elgin, Oklahoma
The newcomer to the craft beer party is Rising Eagle Brewery in Elgin. Founded by two combat veterans that found love in the military, Angela and Thomas Hardin decided to start their new life together in Elgin opening up their own craft beer brewery. Featuring brews like Albino Stout, Peruvian Sass, and the signature Lost Ranger, you can find a Rising Eagle tasting pretty often by following their social media.
Kochendorfer Brewing Company - Duncan, Oklahoma
Over in Duncan, set way back off Highway 81 in a partially wooded area of their North industrial sector you'll eventually run across Kochendorfer Brewing Company. I know, it's a mouthful, but when you're talking craft beer, a mouthful is a good thing. Kochendorfer brews a whopping ten different beers that they serve up in-house and to go. Whether you want to fill your own vessels or opt for their canned products to take home, the tap room looks like a cool place to have a beer and a meal any day of the week.
Canadian River Brewing Company - Chickasha, Oklahoma
Last but not least is the Canadian River Brewing Company up in Chickasha. They brew up small batches of twelve different beers. Everything from the normal hipster craft brewed pale ales to double IPAs, even a salted saison. While you can sample some of their select brews at Bricktown Brewery in Lawton, it might be worth the trip up the turnpike. They also smoke bar-b-que in-house, and who's not up for a trip to a new BBQ joint nearby?
