Oklahoma Board of Education Passes New Rules Covering Race and Gender Topics in Classrooms
Earlier this Summer in May Oklahoma Legislators passed House Bill (HB 1775) which bans the teaching or practice of "Critical Race Theory" in Oklahoma schools. The bill also has some specific elements that limit and/or prohibit universities from requiring students to take mandatory race and gender diversity counseling or training. Governor Kevin Stitt signed the new bill and it went into effect at the beginning of the month on July 1st (07-01-21). That left students, parents and educators across the state wondering just how HB-1775 will be applied and enforced starting with this upcoming school year.

The state of Oklahoma is considering doing away with the sales tax on groceries. At this time the Sooner State is only one of thirteen states that still puts a sales tax on groceries, it's around 4.5%. So most of the country isn't taxing people for grocery items, although some states still tax ready made food items. While 4.5% doesn't sound like a lot it would definitely help a lot of Oklahomans when it comes to their grocery bill.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt issued an executive order ending the state's COVID-19 State of Emergency effective Tuesday, May 4th 2021 (05-04-21). wwwIn his address he stated that Oklahoma's COVID-19 number of new cases is down 94% from it's peak, the number of new cases per capita are among the lowest in the Nation.

Oklahoma House Passes Bill to Cap Insulin Costs for Diabetics
Good news if you, a family member or someone you know has diabetes the Oklahoma House of Representatives pass House Bill 1019 (HB 1019). The new bill would cap the cost or co-pay for insulin to around $1.00 a day, $30.00 a month. The bill also addresses equipment, supplies and even self-management training for diabetics. It passed the House by a (94-2) vote and will now head to the Senate.

Oklahoma House Passes Bill Allowing School Personnel to Carry Firearms
The Oklahoma House of Representatives just passed House Bill 2588 which would allow teachers, administrators and other school personnel to carry firearms on school campuses. The new bill would require that they possess a valid handgun license and met other requirements and criteria set forth by the board of education in their respective districts. HB 2588 passed the house by a (79-19) vote and will now head to the Senate.
