As we roll through the month, most of us are probably trying to nail down the details of our Thanksgiving plans. Who’s bringing the turkey, who’s making dessert, and who’s in charge of not burning the rolls this year?

While you’re sorting that out with your family, we’re doing the same thing here at work—our own little office Thanksgiving celebration. You know how it goes. Everyone signs up to bring something, but nobody wants to go overboard. It’s not the real Thanksgiving meal, it’s the dress rehearsal.

After scrolling through way too many recipes, I decided to just bring Texas Roadhouse rolls and butter. Don’t get me wrong, I love cooking, but this is coworker-level effort. Not Grandma’s-house effort.

While I was looking for ideas though, I had the thought—what if I brought something that was uniquely Oklahoma? You know, a true Sooner State dish that says “This is home.” So I went digging online, and what I found was… well, a mix of pride, curiosity, and slight horror.

Fair warning, some of these dishes are not for the faint of heart. They’re a little strange, a little old-fashioned, and somehow still beloved in a few Oklahoma kitchens.

Oklahoma's Weirdest Thanksgiving Foods

There is no shortage of weird Thanksgiving traditions around the Sooner State. Even my own family celebrates in our own unique way. Half of us hate turkey, and the others hate ham. Mom hates to spend days cooking for a 20-minute meal, and we all get tired of the leftovers. Instead, we have either a taco fiesta or a Chef Boyardee pizza kit party. Nobody complains.

We're not the only family with a weird Thanksgiving tradition, just take a look at these shockingly common Oklahoma TG dishes. It's amazing what the cooks come up with. The list is heavy on gelatin and jello molds, if anything it'd be worth trying at least one this year. They range from mild to wild, best of luck to you.
