Did you know there's a small town in Oklahoma known as the strawberry capital of the world? While the Sooner State is probably better known for its watermelon and peaches, but we also have strawberries.

As a matter of fact, these are some of the very best strawberries you'll ever eat. So where exactly is the strawberry capital of the world? It's the town of Stilwell, OK. located in Adair County in Northeast Oklahoma.

Every year the town of Stilwell, OK. hosts an annual strawberry festival on the second Saturday in May. This year will mark the 76th annual and it's sure to be one of the biggest and best strawberry festivals yet.

The town was given the honor of being named the "Strawberry Capital of the World" back in 1949 by the Oklahoma Governor and Legislature of the time. In those days strawberries were a major crop in Stilwell, OK.

Every year on the second Saturday in May the Strawberry Festival kicks off in Stilwell, OK.

Throughout the Great Depression and World War II strawberries was one of the main crops throughout Adair County. The first Stilwell strawberry festival took place in 1947/1948 and has been going strong ever since.

This year the festival will take place on Saturday, May 11th (05-13-24) marking the 77th annual. There will be a parade, rodeo, carnival, live music, games, vendors, and of course strawberries galore.

You'll find all kinds of strawberry eats and treats from pies, ice cream, jellos, and puddings to jams, jellies, candies, and cakes. You can also purchase fresh strawberries and there are plenty of samples and try ones.
