Is Barefoot Driving Legal in Oklahoma?
When you're young and shoeless, it may seem like an old wives tale. Personally, I can still hear my Texan mother fussing at me and my sisters about wearing shoes and clean underwear while driving in Oklahoma, but is it really illegal to go barefoot?
Let's settle this debate.
Somehow wild topics like this come up around the lunch table all the time. Barefoot driving was the topic of today, and as usual, a heated discussion ensued.
Most of us have heard that it's illegal to drive barefoot and you could be ticketed.
A lot of people think driving barefoot is illegal. Is it in some states? Watch the video below
For whatever reason I think most of us have always thought driving barefoot was illegal and that you could get a ticket for doing so. Well, it may surprise you but driving barefoot is legal in Oklahoma and all 50 states.

That's right it's 100% legal and you can't be given a citation for driving barefoot. Despite what you've heard or been told by your mother over the years, it's not illegal. Somehow this misleading myth, or mistruth continues to be spread.
While it's not illegal to drive barefoot in Oklahoma most would say it's not a good idea
I can vividly remember the moment I decided I'd always wear shoes while driving. A few of us were out in front of the school - I can't remember if it was between classes or after they let out for the day, but a Jeep Wrangler rolled right in front of us.
There was glass everywhere, and of the poor older classmen who crawled out of that deathtrap (Jeep CJ) the driver didn't have any shoes on while walking over all of that glass.
Maybe he initially had some on, shoes do come off in car wrecks, but he didn't have any in that moment as he wandered around confused of what happened.
He was fine.
So the next time someone tells you driving barefoot is illegal you can set them straight.
They probably won't believe you, but you can only lead horses to water. Let them drown in blissful ignorance.
