Freezing Temperatures are Heading to Oklahoma
Even though we're still experiencing some warm temperatures, there's no denying that fall has swept across Oklahoma. It won't be long until the frigid northern air will come sweeping down the plains.
Two weeks ago, the wild forecast we were getting from a few Sooner State meteorologists was a huge and deep cold front in the middle of October. It looked like we were going to see a very early arrival of cold for most of the state... but those sensational social media posts have curiously disappeared in the last few days.
As it stands, the general forecast is warm and exceptionally dry for most of the state - however, while we'll probably cruise right past the record earliest freeze dates for Oklahoma, the average frost dates are approaching fast.

The first place to normally get the cold is way up in the far reaches of the Oklahoma Panhandle - up around the spectacular Black Mesa - Normally around October 15th. The earliest ever is October 6th.
The freezing averages for the bulk of the state is in the first two weeks of November, but the far Northwest, Western, and Southwest portions of the state typically see frost in the middle to end of October, but Farmers Almanac is keeping with the early cold predictions.
Predicted 2024 First Frost Dates Across Oklahoma:
- Guymon - Oct 19
- Woodward - Oct 23
- Elk City - Oct 27
- OKC - Oct 29
- McAlester - Oct 29
- Idabel - Oct 29
- Tulsa - Oct 30
- Lawton - Oct 31
As we all know, the weather is notoriously uncooperative in the Sooner State to the point Oklahoma's first freeze could literally happen tomorrow without notice. With a warm and very dry forecast ahead, we'll have to wait and see how it plays out.
