Will we ever see an end to Winter and all the snow and ice in Oklahoma? Mother Nature sure has been moody lately, not to mention unpredictable. We're experiencing yet another late February ice storm in the Sooner State, it's starting to become a habit. From the looks of things, we'll continue to have snow, ice, and sleet through tomorrow, maybe even Friday. The forecast is all over the place so it's really anybody's guess.

We're used to insane weather days in SW Oklahoma, but recently it's been taken to a whole new level. I'd be willing to bet that this year's Winter has been one of the coldest and craziest yet. I know several records were broken and new ones set for the lowest temperatures and snowfall across the state. And it's not over yet. The next couple of days will be pretty bad, especially if like myself you're not a fan of snow and ice.

You'll want to be VERY CAREFUL if you do have to get out in it as the road conditions are less than ideal. Watch out for all the amateurs, they're everywhere. If you can avoid being on the roads stay at home where it's warm and hopefully well stocked with food and drink. Did you get the bread and milk before the snow hit? If not you might want to rethink just how bad you need them because the stores are as bad as the roads.

You might want to call ahead if you do have plans or places to go just to make sure they're open. Most businesses and offices have been closed, or have amended hours due to the storm. You don't want to risk life, limb, and vehicle just to get to where you're going and it's all closed up. LPS (Lawton Public Schools) have closed for the day and have already announced that they'll be closed for in-person learning tomorrow.

In the meantime, we'll just ride the storm out and make the most of it as best we can. If you're having to work in all this madness stay safe and warm. A BIG THANKS to all the City of Lawton crews doing what they can where they can to improve road conditions. Along with all our first responders and anyone else who's braving the frozen tundra to help keep us safe and sound, we really appreciate everything you do for us.

Lastly, we'd like to thank and recognize the unsung heroes of inclement weather, all the delivery people. If you were unprepared for the Winter storm and end up having to order in, or have something delivered to your home do the right thing and show your appreciation monetarily. So tip and tip generously!

The Frozen Wichita Mountains

When Southwest Oklahoma gets a rare blizzard with serious snowfall, the mountains take on a fresh and stunning look. It's something we all get to experience thanks to the video and camera work of a few awesome locals with a stellar YouTube channel, The Pemberton Boys. They flew their drones and explored the mountains across SWOK while the views were grand, putting it online for everyone to enjoy.
