Oklahoma Let the Internet Name Its Snowplows. It Did Not Disappoint
Oklahoma is officially on the other side of that massive winter storm, but the temperatures aren’t moving yet.
That means, while there will be a little melt from the bright sun, every night it's going to freeze up harder than it was before. Roads are improving, but it’s slow, and as some convince themselves they can drive on ice with ego and confidence, the issues shall continue.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that Oklahoma actually has a statewide fleet of snowplows. Not just city trucks or county help, but a coordinated group that operates across the state when winter weather hits... That's also not the surprising part of this winter story, it's the names we all voted on for these plows.
It was only a few years ago when every Oklahoman was asked to help name the snowplows, and the results were exactly what you’d expect once the internet got involved. The names are dumb in the best way. Heavy on puns, sarcasm, and inside jokes that only make sense if you’ve lived through an Oklahoma winter or two.
There’s something oddly reassuring about it. When it’s still cold days after a storm, and the roads aren’t fully back, knowing the plow scraping your highway has a ridiculous name feels very on brand for this state. We don’t get winter often, but when we do, humor is the weapon used to fight it.
These are some of the names Oklahoma gave its snowplows.
- Plowabunga
- Scoop There It Is
- Lil Snow Peep
- Holy Plow
- Snowy McPlowface
- Sled Zeppelin
- Plowasaurus Rex
- Clearopathra
- Workin’ Snowvertime
- Scoop Dog
- Sleetwood Mac
- Darth Blader
- Ctrl Salt Delete
- Oh Snow You Didn’t
- Plow Chicka Plow Plow
- Plownado
- Snowbi Won Kenobi
- Betty Whiteout
- The Big Snowplowski
They'll be working on the roads until we return to some sort of normal. If you're area is still pretty bad, you can always track the snow team online here.
It’ll warm up eventually. It always does. Until then, the roads are getting better, the plows are still out, and at least their names are good for a laugh.
