This has to be one of the strangest and scariest inscriptions found on any tombstone in any graveyard, it reads "Murdered by Human Wolves." That's right, this century-old grave marker details the death of a woman allegedly killed by werewolves. Even worse, this headstone was once in a cemetery in Oklahoma.

Unfortunately, someone stole the grave marker a few years ago and it remains missing to this day. The grave site of Katherine Cross is in a cemetery located in Seminole County in Konawa, OK. The original tombstone read: Katherine Dau. of J.T. & M.K. Cross Mar. 13, 1899 Oct. 10, 1917 Murdered by Human Wolves.

The legend of Katherine Cross being attacked and killed by werewolves has been around for a century plus. The story goes that her body was found mangled and partly eaten. However, the truth is the wolves that murdered her were actually just human beings. It wasn't a mythical monster, it was a monstrous doctor.

Sadly Katherine Cross was killed due to a criminal operation that was allegedly performed by Dr. A.H. Yates and his assistant Fredrick O'Neal. Dr. Yates was arrested, and charged with her death. His assistant in the botched operation, Mr. O'Neal was never charged. Both men were involved in a previous death of a patient that occurred about six months before Katherine. These 2 men were performing illegal operations on women.

The "Human Wolves" mentioned in the epitaph were Yates and O'Neal, or at least most people say so. Others think she was killed by a werewolf or the dreaded Oklahoma Dogman another Sooner State urban legend.
