As the last remnants of snow melt away across Oklahoma, there's more of it in the forecast. A lot more.

The weather system meteorologists are focusing in on is a deep plunge from the Arctic, a Polar Vortex, that will not only bring the temperatures down significantly but there is also a good chance the rains ahead of it will quickly turn into a blizzard across the state.

What and When?

While we can all agree that meteorology in the sense of forecasting is little more than crystal balls and tossing chicken bones into a chalky circle, here is what next weekend is starting to look like.

It begins with a low-pressure system - the Arctic plunge - diving into the plains next Saturday where it could inevitably clash with moisture out of the Gulf of America.

Yes, it's still too early to really nail down what will transpire, but here is the best guess most weather outlets are cooking up as we speak.

The Odds.

Can we trust a sensational forecast like this a week away? Meh. The Oklahoma Mesonet seems to have faith that this could come true, but the National Weather Service—which rarely offers predictions that far out—has remained pretty quiet on the topic so far.

Still, we are waiting for information to be published from the National Weather Service. They'll get to it eventually. While they take longer to predict the weather, it's usually dead-on accurate when they do.

So are we planning on a weekend blizzard? Maybe. You'll want to stock up on a few days of essentials for the family. Bread, milk, etc... but it's more important to keep in mind, while the media is blowing this thing out of proportion trying to get advertising dollars out of the coverage, it will likely be another Oklahoma winter storm. Here and gone in a day or two.

Just as we learned during last week's Sooner State snowpocalypse, the roads were relatively good and safe to drive within 24 hours. You only need to prepare for a few days in the house. Your regular grocery order will be fine, no need to freak out and start hoarding everything.

Easy small tasks that add up to bother energy savings and comfort in the home. They'll also allow you to avoid the big headaches and repair bills that happen so frequently in our bipolar climate.
