If yesterday was anything, it was an introduction to every new resident exactly how bipolar the weather can be in Southwest Oklahoma.

Tuesday started really cold with occasional sprinkles and a mostly overcast cool sky through the lunch hour. In the afternoon, the temperature shot up to nearly 90°. As the sun went down, the winds absolutely howled throughout the night.

Go home Oklahoma weather... you're drunk...

As the wind blew through power lines, the sway was enough to shut power off to a bunch of different Lawton neighborhoods. While I don't recall any downed powerline reports, there were a ton of tripped power pole breakers out there. Praise be to the linemen that worked tirelessly through the night to restore electricity.

In the short drive out of my neighborhood this morning, I noticed at least three big mature trees came crashing down at some point through the night. I didn't notice any property damage, but I didn't go looking either.

Unfortunately, roof damage was sustained throughout this entire corner of the state in those crazy winds. I know my grandma lost a big part of her roof last night. Even worse, most of it landed on my dad's truck while he was down for a visit. It's jet black in color with a hint of that old-school bass boat sparkle to it... It'll drive him crazy for a while until he gets it fixed.

Since everything is hyper-inflated in price due to shorts in supply, I hate to think how hard it's going to be to get a qualified roofer out to fix everything since roofing calls are likely going to be in high demand in the next twenty-four hours, and it's only the first week of April...

The forecast at the moment is wind gusts at and above 50mph... If last night they blew up to 45, we're all in for a long night of creaky homes and swaying trees. On the plus side, at least the trees aren't in full bloom at the moment. The wind may consume many of Lawton's Bradford Pear trees, but they're such a nuisance species anyway, let it.

Good luck and godspeed my friend. It's going to get nautical out there.
