Every Oklahoman Should Visit The Bone Museum

Boring people all over this state constantly complain that there's "nothing to do in Oklahoma" but you and I know that's just not true.

Case and point, there is something in Oklahoma City that exists only in Oklahoma City. The Museum of Osteology - AKA - the bone museum!

It's the world's largest private collection of skeletal remains and the creatures range from the curiously creepy critters to legitimately freaky real human remains... They even have an entire humpback whale carcass perfectly preserved and hanging from the ceiling.

Oddly enough, this place didn't start out to be the most extensive collection of bones in the world, it actually started out as a hunter's cheaper alternative to expensive taxidermy place called Skulled Unlimited... at least that's the story I was told by my uncle. He and my aunt used to live next door to the owner in Norman a lifetime ago.

Not only will you get to experience a super-rare thing in seeing all of this natural taxonomy, you even get a little peek in on the process which makes pristine skeletal remains possible... the humble flesh-eating beetles.

The cool continues... if you'd like to try your own hand at this kind of natural preservation, you can even buy yourself a box of beetles to take home and feed whatever dead animal you want to it... the dead family pet, a deer harvested last year still in the freezer, even a whole cow if you have that long to wait for these beetles to do their purpose. As I said, it's a ridiculously cool experience.
