You’ll Never Guess the #1 Most Popular Dog Breed in Oklahoma

Now this one surprised me. Never in a million years would I have guessed the most popular dog in Oklahoma correctly. I thought for sure it would be the Lab, or any larger field and hunting dog, but I was way off.

I'm a dog owner myself, I have 2 labs. One is a full bred Chocolate Lab and the other is a Lab mix. Both are great dogs and a ton of fun to be around. Super friendly and incredibly social, just ask anyone who's come over or rang the doorbell. So what's the most popular breed in Oklahoma?

A new study was done by Honest Paws to see what the most popular dog breeds are in each state by using Google Trends. It tracked to see what breeds were Googled most by state. As it turns out the Bulldog was the big winner with ten states. Coming in second place with five states was the Havanese.

Surprisingly 24 different breeds of dogs were winners in different states, including Oklahoma. Here in the Sooner State the Dachshund  was the winner. See I told you that you'd never guess it!

Two states Googled the Dachshund making it the most popular breed in their state, Oklahoma and Tennessee. I didn't realize that there's so many different types of Dachshunds. I always think of the little black and tan "Wiener Dog" when I think of them.

There are two different sizes and three different coat types of Dachshunds. As cute and lovable as these little dogs are they were originally breed to hunt badgers and other small game. So don't be fooled, these dogs are tough and can hold their own for sure. I mean going after a badger in it's hole is not easy task!
