Local Licks @ Six: Dead By First Light

This week's in studio guest for Z94's "Local Licks @ Six" is Dead By First Light! They're no stranger to the local metal / music scene and have been around in one form or another since 2007 The current line-up formed last year in 2011 Dead By First Light are much more than a hardcore / metalcore band. Drawing from several different metal genres and styles  including: Trash, speed metal, hardcore, traditional old school metal, metalcore and list influences like: Exodus, Deicide, Arch Enemy, Slayer, Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, All That Remains and more. Somehow they've managed to take all these styles and influences and mix it all together for a mind bending mix of metal that stands out and demands attention.

The complexity of their music and the arrangements are intense! Every track on their latest album “Cinefile” mixes a variety of tone, vocal style, tempo and texture. Not just track to track but within the songs themselves there's rapid movement and  incredible transitions that will leave you wondering "How the f#@k did they do that". It's certainly no secret that yours truly lives for the hard stuff and  prefers metal to all other forms of music. Sure I'll listen to about anything but when it comes to listening for pure enjoyment it's gotta be hard, fast and aggressive. All the things that Dead By First Light brings to the table. This band is another fine example of label and category defiance. You can't say they're this or that...They've created a blend and style unique to themselves.
