Had I only known I would have attended the alligator vigil late last week on Thursday, May 19th (05-19-22) in Claremore, OK. in honor of the late Albert E. Gator. It was a celebration of life and a gator festival all in one!

I don't know all the details, but whoever thought this up is BRILLIANT! While I'm sure a few people took it seriously and were upset by the killing of Al E. Gator a few weeks ago in Claremore Lake.

Most people came out to pay their respects and party! There was live music, vendors, food trucks, a Croc contest, event t-shirts and they even had gator pizza! It sounds like it was a great time. I hate that I missed it.

KOKH Fox 25 in Oklahoma City, OK. did a feature story on their official website. It was also covered by KTUL News Channel 8 in Tulsa, OK. I'm hoping this becomes an annual event, I'd definitely make the trip to Claremore, OK. to attend. This isn't the last time we'll hear of Albert Edward Gator I'm sure!

If you're unfamiliar with the story of Al E. Gator here's a quick re-cap. People started reporting seeing an alligator at Claremore Lake a few weeks ago, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation confirmed it and managed to locate the gator. They ended up having to euthanize it for everyone's safety.

With it being so big and not knowing where it came from it was too dangerous to attempt to capture it alive and relocate it. Luckily there's no swimming at Claremore Lake so no one was attacked or injured.

I have to get one of these t-shirts...Hopefully, this will become an annual event!

We do have American alligators in Oklahoma but it's rare for them to be this far north. Usually, they're found in the extreme southeastern part of the state, this one however was over 250 miles from where alligators are known to habitate. So how did it end up in Claremore Lake? Wildlife experts think it was released at the lake illegally. It isn't likely that the gator made its way there or could survive the winter weather conditions.
