Fall is Coming to S.W. Oklahoma
It's hard to believe next week on Wednesday, September 22nd (09-22-21) it will be the official first day of Fall. We're fast approaching cooler temperatures and the holiday season. It'll be here before you know it. I'm looking forward to getting a reprieve from the heat and all the Fall family fun and activities.
Every year the family and I map out our Fall and holiday season with all kinds of activities, get-togethers and even mini-vacations or stay-cations. Once it finally cools off some I'm sure several trips to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge will happen. Hiking, fishing, rock climbing and picnics are a lot more enjoyable in the Fall. Plus it's not a bad place to go to see all the Fall leaves, especially from the top of Mt. Scott.
We plan to make a return trip to Turner Falls in Davis, OK. and it wouldn't be a trip without going to see all the animals at Arbuckle Wilderness. We'll rent a cabin at Turner Falls, stay the weekend and enjoy all the sites. If you've never been you have to go it's an incredible place and there's tons of things to see and do.
Another Fall activity we'll be doing this year is making the trip down the Talimena National Scenic Byway. It's been said that it's the most scenic drive in all of Oklahoma, this I have to see! It's about 4 hours from Lawton, Fort Sill so not too far away. It's one of the most popular places to go for Fall leaves and color.
The byway starts at the Talimena State Park in Talihina, OK. and runs a little over 50 miles through Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas. There's lots of small towns along the way to make stops and site see. It seems like the perfect family road trip. Between all the places we want to visit and all the usual Fall plans and traditions we have the holiday season will certainly fly by. It all kicks off this Wednesday!
