A hilariously large debate recently took place on social media about which lake in Oklahoma was the prettiest. Naturally, most people considered their local lake to be the ultimate place to cast a line or hop in for a swim, and while there was an eventual consensus, would you agree with it?

While I would love to just copy and paste a link to this giant discussion, it took place in a private fishing group you likely wouldn't be able to see anyway. With so much free time over the holiday period, everyone seemed to be on tap to have an opinion.

The candidates for Oklahoma's prettiest lake.

Lake Texoma

There's no denying, Lake Texoma is probably the most popular of all Oklahoma lakes, but that's due to the location. Literally on the Texas border drawing people from both sides of the Red River, and it's big enough to accommodate just about anything a person would want to do on a lake. Also a great fishery in most years.

Grand Lake O' the Cherokee's

Meandering through the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, Grand Lake is not only prized as a fantastic place to enjoy watersports in the Sooner State, it's also a world-class fishery that draws in the biggest names in professional fishing pretty regularly.

Lake Eufaula

As Oklahoma's largest lake - it's massive - Eufaula is another of our state's top fisheries, but it's not limited to angling. Tons of watersports happen at Eufaula, as well as events, festivals, and lazy days on the sandy beaches. Is it the prettiest lake in the state though?

Tenkiller

Located about halfway between Grand Lake and Eufaula, Tenkiller Ferry Lake was my personal vote for the prettiest lake in Oklahoma. Like the others, it meanders in a valley of rolling hills, but because it's so rocky, and the water is so remarkably clear, scuba diving is one of the more popular activities on this lake. It's also a pretty pale blue during the high summer sun.

Lake Murray

While Tenkiller is a beautiful lake, Murray likely has it beat. Located down around Ardmore, it's regularly classified as the clearest lake in all of Oklahoma. If you spend much time on the chocolate milk-colored waters of so many Oklahoma lakes, clear water is rare in the Sooner State. As Lake Texoma is so close nearby, Murray manages to stay under the radar. It's also an incredible fishery producing huge bass.

Lake Lawtonka

As a mountain lake, Lawtonka sports some shockingly clear water too most of the year, particularly in the colder months. Fishing-wise, it produces trophy small and largemouth bass. Plus, who wouldn't want to spend a day looking at views like this? But it wasn't voted the prettiest lake in Oklahoma.

Broken Bow Lake

This is it. After a lengthy week-long discussion of anglers on Facebook, Broken Bow was voted the prettiest lake in Oklahoma. There's no denying it's a beautiful place. The green water, pale sandy shores, lush treelines, and one of the most popular getaway lake destinations in the Sooner State, it's hard to argue against that declaration.

After all, it has just about every feature of every lake listed above. Clear water, sandy beaches, rocky shores, and great fishing - plus, you know, Bigfoot.

Would you agree? Which lake do you think is the prettiest in Oklahoma?

Lake Altus-Lugert and SWOK's Underwater Ghost Town

Like most rare things, conditions have to be just right to see one of Oklahoma's hidden gems. In years of good and average rainfall, the lost town of Lugert stays buried beneath the waves... but in dry years, especially those stricken by drought, you can walk around this pre-statehood townsite while enjoying one of Oklahoma's prettiest areas, Quartz Mountain State Park.

Oklahoma's Ten Best Fishing Lakes

If you know, you know. When it comes to fishing, not all lakes are equal. While you can fish and catch fish in just about every body of water in the Sooner State, there are only a handful of lakes Oklahoma anglers get serious about.

Here are the top fishing lakes in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State Parks

Get out and enjoy one of Oklahoma's amazing state parks sometime. From the high desert of Black Mesa to the swampy lowlands and tall pines of Southeast Oklahoma, there's a place of recreation for everyone in the Sooner State.
